My bass amp is SQUEALING!

Postby gamblor » Wed Sep 01, 2010 12:06 pm

Hi. I have an OLD Garnet stencil bass amp that’s been acting up on us. Apparently it’s making a harsh “squeal” when you turn it on now. It made this sound before when we had it on with no bass plugged into it. Now it does it all the time.

I’m going to do all the obvious troubleshooting like swapping cables/instruments. If none of that works, I’m thinking it’s something to do with a bad tube connection (if it has tubes…. We’ve never opened it up before).

Any thoughts or suggestions for troubleshooting/repairing the problem? Has anybody else had this problem with an amp before?

Like you did with your Presonus interface? Hahaha

You can bring it into the shop if you want and I'll have Alain look at it.

Could be a tube gone microphonic. Thom (at The Munro Group) is quite a whiz with tube technology. I'm sure he could fix you up.

Hey Alex, is it the one that Pete dropped off yesterday?
