Weird mic/console problem?

Postby Malcolm Boyce » Sun Feb 24, 2008 7:28 pm

So I had a weird thing happen last night with a Beta58A at AKhord. I had three of my own in play, and one wouldn't pass signal. All attempts to troubleshoot led to the mic itself. Switched channels, cables, you name it. Fussed around with the mic itself... nothing, and all appeared OK physically with the mic.

So I check it today at home, and all is OK. Nothing at all to indicate anything is wrong. Nothing momentary... Nothing.

The question is, what could be different about this mic, that wouldn't work with that specific console's input? That's what it seems to come down to. I have to take it back and try it again in that desk, and see if it will do the same thing, but I'm fairly certain it will.

Al.... Thom....?

Blast from the past time. I still have this microphone, and it is still exhibiting the strange selective operation. It appears to work with some pres, but not others. I had a recent gig where the mic failed to work, so I thought I'd post here again to see if Al might have a lead on what to look for.

I just learned how to open up a Beta 58A so I'm curious what I might find when I go in to do an exploratory.

I'd really need it in my hand to run some tests on it.
I had an SM7 that would behave strangely when phantom was applied to it.
