Christian's Cubase learning thread...

This is where I post my questions to Matt about Cubase!

So! Volume envelopes. You know how in some DAWs, you can click to make some dots and then move them around on a track so that the volume goes up and down when you tell it to? Malcolm says it's like automating the faders.

How you do that in Cubase?

In each channel you will find two buttons that say "R" or "W". Those represent "Read" and "Write" respectively and they control the automation functions of Cubase. There are many different parameters in Cubase that can be automated for each channel, Volume is certainly one of them.

You can view the automation lanes in the project window by clicking on "show automation" and selecting the parameter you want to view (ie. volume).

Hope this helps!

This has the potential of being a fairly long thread as well... ;-)

It's good for me actually. I've often said, one never knows how well they know a subject matter until they have to teach it to someone else.

EDIT: Actually I should pay it forward anyways, since I'm about to start bombarding Andrew...

Oh man, I suck so bad...

I have Cubase STD, I mean Cubase VST, which means I had to go find a tutorial from Feb. 2002 about using the Controller Editor window. No Reading or Writing for me!

I feel like Marty McFly in Back to the Future 2 or something, and you guys all have hover skateboards and I just don't get it!

What version of Cubase are you running? Just so we're clear.

I smell someone getting an upgrade soon...

It turns out I'm running Cubase VST / 32, 5.0

I don' wanna upgrade! I'm gonna figure out this Controller Editor nonsense and see how easy it is. It's...it's probably really easy. They probably changed things up because it was too easy for people. Yeah, that's it

Cubas VST 32 - a DAW so old, it runs on 4 "C" batteries :-|

Do they even still make "C" batteries?

Hmm... You may as well close down this thread then. Hahaha.

Seriously, it was made in 2000. I wonder in Steiny would honour any kind of upgrade deal? Hahaha
