Yeah very much an 80's hifi type of vibe to it. Definitely the way the industry is going with the modular options. It would be nice if it could do 16 preamps though.

With two modules, why can't it do 16 preamp ins? maybe I'm missing something but...

Stick two of these in the back of it and be done.

No it states in your first Mercenary link that the Preamp card requires and additional analog IO card, which takes up the other slot. Notice that none of the configurations give you an option for more than 8 mic pres.

Now for someone with a bunch of outboard mic pres it doesn't really matter, but if I was going to buy it, say for a portable rig, it would be nice to not have to lug around a preamp rack. Just a laptop and two rack spaces.

Spoke too soon, I saw that. Well, I'm still thinking the Aurora is going to be the way to go.
