What platform do you use?

What do you record to? Soundblaster SB16? Cakewalk? Steinberg? Pro Toolz? 2" analog tape? I'd love to be illuminated as to what is used by y'all.

I am a totally "in the box" type o' guy. MOTU2408mk3, with some Behringer ADA8000s. P4 2.4Gig with a Gig of RAM and 120Gig of HD x2. Sonar and Sound Forge. A few other foofy things.

...That being said, I'll use anything that works. One of the drum tracks from mr distant's current project was recorded into a 16bit SBLive.

Since you asked, oddioguy, what are you using?

Another vote for Sonar. Although with a Delta 1010 interface, 64 bit AMD 2800, 1 gig of ram, el cheapo Yamaha PSR170 (for shear # of keys) and an Edirol PCR-30 Midi controller.

I like the M-Audio gear bro. Been using their MIDI interfaces since forever.

The MOTU been working out well? I've been thinking about a good A?D convertor with USB or Firewire, and MOTU keeps popping up....

Currently, my home rig consists of a Mackie MS1402 piped into a Yamaha DSP2416 (essentially an 02R on a card). Main software is Sonar2.0XL running on a P4 1.5G under WIN98. If I was willing to give up the Yamaha card, I'd jump to an XP machine, but I'm not. :)
Usuall colection of outboard comps and processors, plus plug-ins and other assorted software to compliment Cakewalk.

My hands are tied by the Yamaha card. Sonar 2.0 was the last Cakewalk product to directly support it, without using a 3rd party bridge. If I move the card to my XP box, I lose a lot of its features.....that, and I'm a bit of a Luddite...:)

Agreed. M-Audio really have their stuff together and it has served me incredibly well. I gotta admit though, I worry about the future of the 1010, how much longer are M-Audio gonna support it...I know you with that Yamaha card and Sonar 2 understand where I'm coming from on this one :-)

Love the MOTU! I've been thinking about getting a second expansion unit so I can get 48ch of lightpipe straight in from the PM5Ds at the Imperial.

MOTU keeps coming up for a reason.

Don't worry too much about your OS. Scott's still using 95, without a good reason.

Support is the issue, isn't it......
All their MIDI interfaces boast "lifetime" warantees, but they don't promise drivers or support for a lifetime. C'est la vie.....

True, that. Although to M-audio's credit, they had a 64 bit driver before I had a 64 bit CPU...and I suppose it could be alot worse, I *almost* bought a Digi001 when I bought the Delta (2 and half years ago) and Digi screwed 001 owners big time.If I'd spent that much money and Digi dropped support that quickly, I'd have become a Luddite myself.

My one issue with M-Audio was with my DIO card that they didn't have an XP driver for. They took the card back on trade, and I paid the difference to upgrade for the Delta DIO2496. This was all brokered by Terry Hume at Moncton Musicstop.

Bad experience turned good.

At the time, no such place existed.

Let's just say, I shopped in Moncton a lot.
