If I had GAS...

Let's play a game. If you had to start from the ground up and build a home/project studio in a room in your basement for under $10,000 what would you put together with that money? Some clients of mine that are part of a Hip Hop collective were asking if they could get a really hot setup for doing Hip Hop stuff for under $10,000. I said they should be able to keep it under $10,000 to start, but that would not include the rooms and treatment. Turns out that I was right, but just barely...

So what would you guys get with $10,000 to spend on gear?

Here's mine:

Mac Pro quad-core (refurbished) - $2399.00
Apogee Ensemble - $1950.00
Dynaudio BM 5A MKII - $998.00
Lawson L251 - $2200.00
Pro Tools 9 - $599.00
Melodyne Assistant - $199.00
Sennheiser e835S - $109.00
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro - $180.00
(4) 20' mic cables - $100.00
K&M mic stand - $100.00
____________
SUB-TOTAL: - $8834.00
TAX: - $1148.42
GRAND TOTAL: - $9982.42

I had enough leftover to buy lunch at Urban Deli! 8-)

You mean for this "hip hop" setup or something altogether different?

Everyone's setup will be different that way based on their usual needs. I think it would be more fun for everyone to design a setup based on what their own needs were.
