This week's, On a Rider I Just Read...

Under "to be supplied":

One "extra low impendance"(sic) cable for the omni-directional "phantom" powered microphone which (artist) will provide.

Al... Help me out on this one? facepalm

I cannot because i don't know what "Impendance" means.
Although I do know that "Omni-Directional" means less fun in the monitors.

Actually you should always call me when you have special requests on tech riders like that, you'd be surprised how quickly I can whip up a convincing and fully functional 'MacGuffin' !

For example in a case like this I would have custom made you for a one time use only a violet AES/EBU microphone cable fitted with black Neutrik NC3-F/MXX series connectors adorned with Swarovski elements. You could have pointed out to the client the 110 Ohm denotation and how it was the lowest possible 'impendance' rating a microphone cable could have and still be ANSI rated for safe use with phantom power but that a UL listing was out of the question as they simply had not caught up yet with the technology. You would have also added that the local tech who constructed it had tuned the backshell cavity resonance for optimum performance in the 'Omni' polar region. By the way you had admin add the extra charge to the bill.

The best part is that you would have solidified the client's belief in their own crap much to the chagrin of the downstream techs.

The worst part about stuff like this is that I don't even have what I need to know about the audio setup in this case, but they gave me this unnecessary nonsense.

In that case can I go ahead and start making that cable?

Ummmmmmmmmm.... No.

That being said, if I wouldn't end up paying for it.... I'd love to do something like that.

I'll look and see what i have in stock.
If I don't have to go out and purchase anything, I'll make it and theres no charge as long as i get it back.
When's the gig?
