On a recent gig, and no I'm not making this up, and no it's not mine.

Looks like another 57.

I'd laugh if it was like a 451 or something.

Surely someone who would mic hats with a 57 would use one on snare. That way the bleed blends better... :-)

This was actually a sizable kit with choices of Sennheiser and Shure microphones including several condensers that would have been a better, IMO, hats microphone.

At least the OHs got SDCs... :-)

What... Not enough 57s to go around?

Anyone else have to use a particular mic/brand because of an advertising deal? I probably have one of the best stories.

Yes.
I used to be involved with the production of Music Fest Canada as a backline manager.
The last year I was involved Beyer Dynamic was a major sponsor, they supplied 100% of the microphones for all the stages.
Now we all know that many of their classic models are great but alot of their newer models at the time were less so. Of course for the more 'B' stages the classics were scarce. The week after the performances we had a post mortem and alot of their neo-classic vocal mics were getting poor reviews, to the point that sponsorship was deemed not worth it.
I believe this predated the Opus series and may have included the TG-X series.

I played with an act at a contact type showcase event. The venue was substantially sponsored by Sennheiser and was equipped with choice of microphones. We get part way through sound check and everything goes fine until vocals. Lead singer needs more vox, until.... feedback solo. Well equipped monitor rig, and seemingly experienced tech, screwing around for 5 mins trying to get singer happy... Nadda. Monitor guy reaches into his personal kit and brings out a Beta58A and replaces the lead vocal mic. Quickly everything comes into play perfectly, and I share a good laugh with the crew on hand.

Lead vocal mic on the "Sennheiser Stage"... Shure Beta 58A.

Although I am not surprised, I would need to know what model they were supplying for lead vocal position. They are capable of manufacturing decent quality handheld vocal mics, e865, MD425, MD431. Unfortunately at times they tend to push their latest product, for example in the mid 2000's their Evolution 900 series.

I am not familiar enough with their products to know the model, but it would have been 2006ish IIRC. It would have been whatever the "comparable" dynamic of the time was. I'm sure it was whatever Sennheiser was pushing, as they often do.
