A pop quiz

Postby warrbeat » Sun Jun 19, 2011 11:58 pm

I've been asked to mic and reinforce the ice surface and boards at work... The industry norm to record the ice is for PCC 160s mounted on the glass. The question is the boards....

Really? Is that the norm now? How soon 'til triggering samples of hits?

I dunno I would experiment with flush mounting electrets from the rear. Simple and cheap enough to try.
Simply plug them into a D.I. and see how they work.

Definitely not the Norm but something that the GM of the Seadogs thinks would be cool and if nothing else it could improve the ambient audio on the video highlights...

Electrets eh Al? Something I can "permanently" mount to the boards possibly? I was thinking about taking the capsule section from a PCC 160 and sticking it on a piece of plexi to reduce the visual issues of hanging stuff on the glass... I was wondering if PZMs would work on the back of the boards but I'm guessing we'd get too many crowd noises...

Indeed. Cheap enough to put one on every board.
