drum software

Postby jim » Thu May 17, 2012 7:05 pm

Ok...I know... Malcolm say's to read first, but I didn't. So if this topic has come up and the answers are already there...I apologize. My question to you all is, what is a good software drum program? Meaning - not a lot of tedious programming - easy for a guitar player to understand - quick simple loops and the ability to change them on a whim. Especially time signatures. I am running Cubase 4 on a mac book pro, if that makes any difference. I've heard that iZotope and ezdrumer are ok. Any opinions?
Sincere thanks

I have Groove Agent 3 made by Steinberg. It's pretty easy to use and works well for what it is. I may be willing to part with it... EZ Drummer is probably the benchmark these days though, and I'd certainly look at that. I don't think it's too expensive either.

As in, sell it for dirt cheap. I just need to figure out how the license transfer will work. You use Cubase right? Do you have a stienberg dongle?

I'll sell it to ya for $75 if I can find out how to transfer the license. I'll even go over and install it for you/give you a tutorial.

I think we've reached an agreement. I just have to research the licensing end of it.

I'm excited for Jim really catching the recording bug. Now if I can get him to pick up a better interface... I already pointed this out to him:

What...? Do you think he's made out of $75 bills or something?

Took some digging but I found it:

Steinberg wrote:Resale Wizard for Steinberg Software
Done! You've provided all information that is relevant for reselling your product.

Your information
The information on the product you are planning to sell:

The software already has been registered with a MySteinberg account on http://www.steinberg.de/mysteinberg.
It is copy protected by a USB-eLicenser.
The USB-eLicenser is holding multiple licenses.

Required steps before selling:

At first it is necessary to separate the license of the program you are planning to sell from the other license(s) on the USB-eLicenser. For this purpose the eLicenser Control Center is providing the possibility to transfer licenses from one USB-eLicenser to another.

You can get empty USB-eLicensers from any Steinberg dealer. Within most European countries USB-eLicensers are also available in our online shop. If you are not resident in the scope of the online shop please contact your local distributor.

For the license transfer you'll need at least two USB-eLicensers (a source and a target key). These are the necessary steps in detail:

Please install the latest version of the eLicenser Control Center before you start the transfer!
Open the eLicenser Control Center (Windows: Start > Programs > eLicenser, Mac: Applications).
Connect both USB-eLicensers. They will be listed in the eLicenser Control Center.
Click on the license you want to sell to grab it and drag it to the entry of the other USB-eLicenser while holding down the mouse button.
Release the mouse button to start the license transfer.
Once the transfer is completed the new USB-eLicenser should hold the license of the program you are planning to sell. Since the new USB-eLicenser has not been registered you can sell it combined with the corresponding installation disc(s) and manual(s) as unregistered software.
Of course a license can also be transferred directly to a USB-eLicenser provided by the buyer.

In both cases it is not necessary to inform the Steinberg support team. The registration in your MySteinberg account will be updated automatically.

Recommended scope of supply

A complete offer should include:

installation disk (CD-R, DVD)
unregistered USB-eLicenser incl. the corresponding license
manual(s)
original box

After a bit of fiddling around to make sure I had the proper updated version of the eLicenser software and updated GA3 installer, we got everything transfered over and running properly. The next hour was me giving a tutorial on a platform that seems as familiar to me as ancient egyptian. I think GA3 is going to be a good program for Jim though since he wants to get into programming his own beats and GA3 can output MIDI which can help make that process easier.
