Salty Jam No More?

Postby Malcolm Boyce » Fri Feb 22, 2013 10:55 pm

I noticed that the saltyjam.ca site is down. Is this a sign that things are all over for this local festival?

I am aware of some financial question marks from at least the last couple of years so I'm curious if they finally had to put it down for good.

That would be too bad. I haven't been involved in a number of years but it was always a good time. There's not really any other major festivals inSJ is there?

Programming a bunch of regional, lesser known acts to give them exposure, on a bigger stage next to some name groups, doesn't bode well for attendance in a town like this.

I remembering mixing a group on the main stage, to have them walk to a club uptown and play another gig later that night. How exactly does that make sense from a business standpoint for the festival?

I know harvest is on a different scale but that's exactly how it runs. All the opening acts on te big stages are playing two or three times a night at different venues, sometimes even free ones. Harvest is really all about the party though and the party happens in the big tent.

I just caught a clip of them announcing the events for this year. They directed everyone to saltyjam.com so I looked quickly and I hate to say it, in classic fashion there is two different, co-existing websites for "Salty Jam"

The original site covering the first year through to 2011 I guess... http://www.saltyjam.ca

...and the current site http://www.saltyjam.com

Both showing up in searches, and both looking equally"official". I know I had ".ca" bookmarked and linked from my site, and I'm surely not the only one. It's so incredibly important to have your web presence clear and easy to find these days. This kind of thing smells of disorganization.
