Coastline Comp. "The Assignment"

Postby Malcolm Boyce » Wed Feb 22, 2006 12:25 pm

Anyone have any details about where things were recorded/by whom, on Coastline "The Assignment"? There is such a variety of sounds on the thing.

I'll get started with:

Track#9 Mr Distant - "In A Nice Way"
Produced and Recorded by Scott DeVarenne at his own little place...
Additional Recording and Mixed at Middle Audio by yours truly.

And who else noticed that Track #1 Curbside Prawjek's track, on most of the instruments, left and right channels are 180 out of phase and cancel completely when you play in mono!

I still haven't had a chance to digest the whole thing yet. I'll probably post something about it when I"m done the whole thing.

TAFN,
Malcolm

Go here: http://www.freewebs.com/weather_station/playbak.htm

Check out "drum sample".... I believe that's the drum track from-

Track #5 Hospital Grade - "The New Depression"

So does that mean we have two figured for?

I'm thinking 5,7,13, and 16 are from Goz's place. Tracks 3&4 I'm thinking Curtis' place. There's some other stuff that might be from Curtis' place as well... dunno. This is all just guessing from the sounds.

Oh yeah... Track 17, somebodys kitchen.... It's cool, I just wish it was stereo instead of mono!

Anyone else have this disc yet? Just curious who's doing what on these things.

You know, I think John Goud recorded the curbside song. I'll have to show him the phasing problem...

Pettin' Dogs by the Port City Allstars I believe was recorded in the former Port City Allstars house on a reel to reel analog 4 track.

Hey: I should be able to fill you in a bit on things. But only a little bit.

I don't know where Collide did the Curbside track.
Bucket Truck recorded someplace in Halifax.
Naked Baron and Amplenough both recorded with Curtis.
The HG track is actually from a digital 4-track by ZOOM (so hi-tech). Mixed on a computer by the inimitable Brett Whitaker. All things considered, I think it sounds decent, if pretty harsh.
Belvedere recorded someplace in western Canada.
The Organizers recorded with Marc G.
I Hate Sally are from Ontario. I assume they recorded there.
I don't know about that mr distant guy.
Mazord recorded with Rick Daigle and oh god the overdrive on everthing. :(
Victim 13 I actually don't know about. They are local though.
Cut Shallow and Elemae are both from the US.
Nandez recorded someplace in F'ton.
We.re All Broken recorded in NJ.
Porkchop Sandwiches recorded with Curtis.
PCAs at home, etc.

So adam,

Was I incorrect about that drum track from Goz's website being from the Hospital Grade song from the disc?

It's the same song, but the recording that appears on the comp is just a demo the band recorded in the spring (or so) of 2005. Before Brett left (that's him you hear on the recording) and I joined, in any case.

Ahhhhhhh.... Tricky. So that track has been re-recorded with Goz? I really liked the Hospital Grade song, I just thought it needed a remix bad.

So if anyone finds the lead vocal track..........

Great forum Malcom... you know I'm a geek, it's an easy sell on me,

The Organizers track 7 is the only thing I did on the whole compilation (that track is kinda lo-fi and recorded on a small Roland recorder, then mixed later on on my PC) ... I don't have a copy of the compilation yet to even comment on the rest ?

The new Hospital Grade recordings are quite awsome... and yes, you will be able to hear the vocals in the final mix.
