Canada Day Weekend, SJ Boardwalk, 2007

Postby Malcolm Boyce » Sat Jun 30, 2007 5:16 pm

So Weatherstation and I are down at the Boardwalk today, in the sun, and rain, and wind........ so far!

The DDA CS8 at FOH is dying a slow death, and since I'm doing monitors today.... It's Marc's problem... ;-)

Things are around 110dBC in the "monitor tent" right now with "Gordon Gets Lost" on stage, and I'm assuming they'll get louder with Jimmy Swift and Wintersleep on later.

I'm just enjoying having WiFi down here, and thought I'd let you all in on our misery.

Tomorrow, I won't be here, but Goz still will be, with Jim and ScottD. Hope the weather's better for them then. You think Marc would have some clout, with that name of his...

Well, the sun's out big time now, after a pretty good rain shower. The weather network has been showing no rain at all. Not only can they not "predict" the weather, but they seem to have difficulty just reporting what's happening outside the window.

I was gonna upload some pics, but the batteries in my camera died! DOH!

You know...

I love the way active direct boxes sound on most stuff, but sometimes, a "simpler" passive DI is less likely to get f'd up on stage...

... and yes, I do have too much time on my hands. I'm in monitor world, I've got wireless, AND... I'm bored.

Time to service it and put it to pasture then, by which I mean install it.

A kinda fun weekend for once. I'd like to thank Brooke, Gonzy, Malli_B,
xoAMBox, Seppy, Larry and Terry of D&D, Jerry the backstage guy,
Bill de music-arrete, Heather, 2 Stephanies, Harry, that girl with the really
short shorts who raised hundreds of eyebrows throughout the day,
the weatherman, although he was dangerously close to making my
poop list, but only for a couple of minutes, twice. Oh, and the helicopter
sending a fine mist of poopy SJ harbor water over the revelers, whilst nearly
collapsing our monitor tent, was a nice touch.

and I'll add to the list... I'd like to thank the blinking yellow light on my Clear Com pack, for connecting me to the outside world beyond the FOH audio hut.... and yes, that rescue helicopter was pretty darn sharp, cause Tonka trucks just don't cut it for me anymore.

considering how complex some of the band set-ups were (mostly on Saturday)... the crew that have worked at the Imperial for a years, I think are telepathic... it was a walk in the park for me... though, the DDA console is somewhat dying a slow death.

Very successful weekend... no Volvo's were destroyed !

PS - please post pics Malcolm... I didn't bring my camera, what was I thinking ?

I'll tell ya Goz, the secret is just sheer repetition. No one around here puts in more event days a year than the regular crew at Imperial Theatre. I'm pretty proud to be associated with some of the gang that have passed through there.

Sometimes I miss being there more often, but it was my time to move on when I did.

I will post some pic's of the weekend later on, but I know I didn't get too many before my camera died on me.

You made the short-shorts a priority before your camera died, right? 8-)
