Audiophile MP3's? Where's the problem??

It's an uphill battle, my friend. I have literally A/B'd $150.00 bookshelf speakers against $1000.00 towers and had people look at me and ask "did you swap them yet?", and yet we argue about the minute detail between 20 and 24 bit....

Quite often, I like to open up a piece of gear and see if it can be improved through modification / part swapping... 'oddioguy' would probably have the most years experience in this department... and no exception to DAC's in consumer grade CD players... but mp3 players ? so what makes my Ipod tic ? Lookin' under the hood ain't so easy... If I ever crack it open, I think it would be end of story for my Ipod ?
