Any proper "digital" level meter should be in dbfs with the top of the scale being 0dbfs, and everything else being rated in negative levels below that. I would be surprised if that Sonic Foundry software you are using doesn't have a "level" meter in it.

In some DAW software you can scan for peak levels, and even locate them on the time scale. It just depends on what you are using.

The copy of "My Head" that is on the compilation has a peak level of -3.3dbfs. The copy that is on that disc that Scott forwarded should have a peak level of 0dbfs. I know Andrew, I probably should normalize lower than that but oh well... it was supposed to be just a demo of the track.

tsk tsk. I'm not far off though. I usually level out to about 0.2 dbfs.

I see what you're saying and apparently understand it more than I thought I would. haha.
The Demo of the song was burned to CDR. Is it possible it was 'Normalized' at that medium? Say -3Db than what it originally was? Did you or Scott burn the disc?
With my precautions to make sure I ripped any music at it's best and then drop them into the CD architect for sequence, I just can't see where I dropped the levels.
It's too bad I haven't had a chance to 'test' the other tracks, but I'm beyond busy at home this last week. (In the middle or relocating my computer area for a suitable winter recording hangout in my house)
So please bare with my procrastination - I'll get it sorted out very shortly. :)

So Matt... Get a chance to go over the disc yet? Just curious about your impressions...

I hope you don't let my opinions sway your judgment...

Dude...we come from a lot of the same influences when it comes to our preferences... When I have the chance to give it a full honest listen, don't be surprised if I come up with a carbon copy of your assessment. But we'll see... give me some time.

First problem... iTunes doesn't pick up the metadata. I almost refuse to listen to it based on that alone...I hate having "track1" "track2" ect... all over the place in my iTunes, it drives me mental. When that is solved, then talk to me.

I listen to everything via iTunes, and I'm super anal about organization... so this is a BIG deal for me.

I must be old fashioned. I remember listening to cassettes and records and if you lost track you had to
either look at how much tape had passed and guess, and at least with records you could look
and count what track you were on. I was really impressed when I started listening to CDs and
the player would display what track you were on. It's funny how none of this seemed to bother me.
Of course, if you misplaced the case or jacket you were s.o.l..

You know, we diss Mp3s but having track info embedded in them is light years ahead of CDA. No matter where you go, there you are...

Unfortunately it's not very high on my priority list at the moment. But I will get to it, sometime... :-P

Hopefully they don't release one before next year then...

Seriously I'll get to it before I go back to work. I just have a bunch of stuff I'm trying to clear off my plate.

All you need to know is right here:
http://www.theamplive.com/charts.php
Best song on the record, "My Head" currently at #2 on theamplive charts.
Mixed and "drummed" by our very own Malcolm Boyce.
Give it a listen. It will make you feel sad and happy and thirsty.

That was honestly one of my favorite tracks on the album. I know that I'm impartial about it...because I listened to it on my shuffle with no idea who it was until afterwards.

I could've used some more cowbell in the mix I heard, but hey, nobody's perfect... Oh and you sound totally emo! :-P

Second favorite, but a very close second. Just because I love the tune so much is "Unamused" by Clinton Charlton. Pretty guitars... pretty melodies.

I checked and the "Revenge" still isn't recognized by media players as far as track info. I sent ChuckT a message to see what he would say about us (Matt) cranking about it...

For me that's just an easy thing for those of us who don't listen to things on CD players anymore, which I think is most of us. I have 2650 songs on my iTunes and it's hard to keep it all organized if everything is named Track 1, Track 2, etc.

I'm just overly anal about organization, so that kind of little stuff bugs me. But of course that has nothing to do with the compilation of songs itself. Keep us posted on the response to see if it gets resolved.

I've had demos that I've done have their details show up in media player...
