Locally, your best bet for selection would be Musicstop. Any reasonably decent music store will have some of these brands to choose from.ruler wrote:ok well i need to pick something up i have been looking around and i can't find any programs anywhere it mite just be me but where do you buy it at

I'll assume that your price range is somewhere between 10 and 15 thousand dollars in which case I would reccomend getting a PT HD rig.
By the way are you still in high school?
Are you related to Ian Shonoman?
What kinds of things are you looking at using the software for? What platform do you prefer to use? Windoze? Mac?ruler wrote:So what do yo guys think i sould start with be a newbie am all...
Which always brings me back to how I could build an insane Sonar/MOTU rig, and still have five thousand dollars left for what it would cost for a comparable ProTools rig.Alain Benoit wrote:I'll assume that your price range is somewhere between 10 and 15 thousand dollars in which case I would reccomend getting a PT HD rig.

If you're just interested in learning how to tweak around, there are tons of demo, and "lite" versions of stuff for you to try without spending any money. Pretty much every piece of hardware I've bought for "computer based recording" has come bundled with some kind of "free" audio software.

I hear what you're saying, but what I've noticed is that even when folks say within a certain budget, most ignore that part and start listing stuff off like a bunch of schmucks...Alain Benoit wrote:You still have not told ANYONE what your budget is.
I swear I get asked on a DAILY basis from clients, friends and strangers alike, " Hey Al, what is the best mic (amp, compressor, eq, preamp etc.) to get?".
Answer, Elam 250 (Crown Macrotech 10000, Fairchild 670, GML 9500, Neve 1073 etc.)
Awesome Al, how much is that mic? Well if you can find one in good shape upwards of $20,000 dude.
What!!!!!!!! I ain't got that kinda dough!
Well how much do you have to spend?
I dunno I was thinking around $250.
Well in that case..................................................
