Learning how to record video things

Postby roachie » Thu Dec 13, 2007 4:00 pm

Ok, so I played with a 4-track and went to recording school. Now, I've been playing with a video camera, so where do I go to learn this stuff... (maritimes preferably, $$ in play)... I really enjoyed video editing, so I'd like to get some trainin'...
Any suggestions?

I took a one week course at the Maine Media Workshops that was quite good. The only downside is that they pretty much only teach on Avid or Final Cut Pro, so if that's not what you're using, then not so sure. Not quite Maritimes, but it's only about a 5-6 hr drive.

I use adobe premiere, but that's only because I have it... I don't care what the platform is right now, I'm too new... and no, I didn't consider Atlantica, I didn't think they were even open yet...
Maybe if they offered free classes, I'd check it out...

I probably still wouldn't bother. Although the animation guys demo reel doesn't look all that bad.

If you're open to new platforms, I would highly recommend Final Cut Pro. It's much cheaper than Avid, and since you're used to the workflow of Premiere, Final Cut has a lot of similarities. It's also fast becoming an industry standard.

The big downside for all you PC cats is that's its Mac only. Personally I don't consider that a bad thing at all considering the state of the Intel macs today. Buy one machine and get to run both platforms. But that initial investment is the kicker. If you end up buying/borrowing a Mac, you can get the express version of FCP for under $300 I believe. And then you also have the option to upgrade from there.
