If you have time to experiment you should try a Decca Tree setup. You could use the 4050s as the base of the tree with the MS configuration you were talking about as the point. Also I would try experimenting with sweeping the "M" polar pattern from cardiod all the way through figure 8, whether you try the Decca setup or not.

Why not? worst case scenario, I'm right back to where I started without much extra work at all. Best case scenario it sounds amazing. Good call MacRae....
