What's that piece of gear that you have that you would never ever part with.
For me it's my 96 fender bassman 59 reissue. If someone offered me 3 g for it I probably wouldn't give it up.

Well that's foolish. You could sell it for 3, and then buy another one for less than $1500. I know what you're saying though, that is a great amp.
I don't have any kit that I wouldn't part with, as it stopped being about the gear some time ago for me, and became more about the process. As such, I can pretty much work with whatever's put in front of me, as long as it's decent.
That being said, there is a number of pieces that I do dearly love, and would hate to have to replace, even though most of them aren't actually mine.
Larivee OM-05. Sounds good on every recording.
U87, 414's, Sennheiser 441. I could make great records forever with just those mics.
Great River MP-2NV. So flexible.
Al's STC-8. I wish I had a bajillion of these. 1176's and whatnot are fine, but I only really need 3-4 really coloured compression boxes. I could use 20 channels of Cranesong easy.

My electric cello, the Yamaha SVC 50. I've had my acoustic since high school, but have considered uprading a few times. It has a nice sound, but is still a basic student model. I'm pretty sure I'll part with the acoustic someday, but can't imagine getting rid of the Yamaha.

It will always work, but it's rarely ever a first choice.

It's the internet, so I'm sure your story will fit. Indulge us with a story.

it's great man. It records so well too. I don't gig much with it anymore. It was beat to shit when I got it and then add the years of playing I've put into it too. She deserves to rest.

My Yamaha QY-70 sequencer. It has a real graphical, intuitive way of letting me program it, it's awesome for working out melody/structure ideas, and would only be better if it had more memory (and sampling capabilities). This is how I see written music.
