Songs of Summer

Postby Malcolm Boyce » Wed Jun 20, 2012 1:21 pm

I find it interesting how we associate tunes with the seasons. I remember finding out years ago that radio would program songs heavily around the time they were first "hits" or released because it triggers an emotional reaction with people that way.

That being said... What's a tune that takes you back to a summer in your past?

Fun topic! For me, that would be the entire album of "Zingalamaduni" by Arrested Development, which came out mid June in 1994. I was 15 at the time, and junior high was coming to an end. In those days, I had no interwebz to tell me when my favourite group was coming out with a new album, so it was a great surprise to walk into Sam the Record Man in Brunswick Square and see it sitting on a shelf; I returned the next day with monies and listened to it all summer. Their music has always been really bright, warm and positive (in spite of a few downers), perfect for warm weather.

The Crow soundtrack was another album I listened to quite heavily that summer, staying up late and reading comics. I listened to it a lot the following summer as well, letting it motivate me as I worked hard on my Mario Paint Crow request that got played on Much RSVP (sadly, I missed the episode).

Ask Jim if he remembers her zany graphic curve for her in-ears.

Here is my summer song;
