ECMA's

Postby macrae11 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:25 pm

Hey does anyone have any plans for the ECMA's? They're just a couple of weeks away. Let me know if anyone wants to have a get together. I know I'm working a show all day Saturday, but other than that, I'm just trying to catch as many shows as possible.

I just got word today. I've been recruited again this year to play bass for Dan Cunningham. Two shows; one on Saturday afternoon, the other on Sunday afternoon. (I hope it's the show that you're mixing) ;-)

Unfortunately it won't be  I'm running the Gospel Showcase all day Saturday. Unfortunately I won't even be able to really get out and see any other shows that day, which really sucks because I have an ultimate pass.

I thought ECMA was East Coast Music Association, thus making the award(s) ECMAA.

The 'East Coast Music Awards' presented by 'The East Coast Music Association'.
The acronym is the same for both.

No wonder this is the first I hear of it... I hate always being the non-musician of the bunch.

Maybe it's finally time I come out of the closet as a pianist. Maybe then you people will treat me as an equal... :-(

That's okay...leave your pianist where it is...

You guys are both right.

East Coast Music Association is the governing body that runs the events that include, and surround the gala.

East Coast Music Award (the assoc. in this one is not usually stated as it's implied) is in reference to the actual award, and often to the entire series of events that surround the gala.

But technically you're right though ECMA Awards is the proper name of the award.

Likewise the CCMAs work in exactly the same manner. The word "association" is often dropped by the general masses, although there as well, it's CCMA Awards, technically, and not just CCM Awards as most of us call them. The only other difference is that with CCMA they call the whole bunch of events surrounding the gala "Country Music Week." Which is a term the strikes fear into the very core of my being...

Hey Dan, glad to see you here.

Remember, when you shoot the band, try and shoot some of the crew as well... ;-)

I'll do my best. Last year I took a picture of a crew guy tearing down some gear at the Marquee club and got royally chewed out.

... not that I cared much.

That wasn't very nice.

My favourite pic you ever took of me is still:

Don't know yet. I haven't really seen the schedule yet either. Let me know where you're planning on being, and maybe we'll hook up for a bit.

I'll be up there on Thursday night to see some friends play and I'll be playing on Friday at 1pm at the Delta for a RadioECMA performance. P'reps we'll run into each other and be all "Hey Scotty", "Hey, Clinton"....those are the moments that define these events for me.

Just wanted to wish luck to any musicians and/or artists that have any endeavors this weekend with the ECMAs. I hope that you all play well and get the respect you deserve. May these ECMAs be fruitful to all who participate.

Cheers!
