Ken Tobias Album Release

Postby Mathieu Benoit » Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:57 am

Rumor has it that the new Ken Tobias CD is ready for release very soon. The first or second week of May I believe. I'll try to dig up the specifics and post them so that everyone knows how to get their own copy.

The official release date is set for May 15th. You can preorder a copy by contacting Ken directly. I believe the direct order pricing is CDN $15 + HST/GST + Postage/handling if applicable.

Ken stopped by the studio last night to give me my advanced copy of the CD. So I was on my way home and I popped it into my car, as this is where I listen to most of my music, and decided to drive around for a while before heading home. I got a chance to listen to at least 4 or 5 of my favorite tracks before I finally made it home. I really enjoy it, it's well done and sounds great.

Of courses mixes are subjective, and I'm used to a more "modern" mix, I do find that the mix matches the songs, and I certainly respect that. The songs have many classic elements about them and so do the mixes, so the overall experience is still endearing. The mastering, made a huge difference too. From what I heard it when Ken finished re-mixing it to the finished mastered product, I have to say it's very pleasing to my ears.

All in all, it's a great way for him to come back from a 15 year hiatus!

Anyways, that's the cliff's notes version of my review.

I have many fond memories of recording this album, and they all come back when I listen to the finished product.

Congrats to Ken on a wonderful collection of songs that has finally surfaced!

PS - My Favorite Tracks:
My Maria
Like Innocence

The acoustic guitar sound in these songs makes me very happy.

Cool stuff. Those were also two of my favorite tracks that I remember from recording. Rick did some wicked acoustic parts on My Maria.

I think those were two of my mixes that made the album too!

Hehe... I think you're right. You're mix for "My Maria" was golden. I loved that mix right away, and still do.

Indeed! It's worth picking up by any standards.

Soft release is tomorrow. I'll have to ask if there's a way of getting the album other than contacting him. Maybe it'll be released in Backstreet Records or something. I'll inquire.
