Postby Greg H. » Wed Apr 01, 2009 11:09 pm

Hey, did anyone else see Our Lady Peace's new album's art?
You can check it out here
http://www.ourladypeace.net/

Wow! they just changed the homepage. They have some studio stuff now...

So i'm sure i'm the only one on this forum besides Nick that likes our lady peace, but i was just wondering if anyone else listened to them or saw them in PEI last summer?

I like them in moderation, but sometimes they're a bit too mainstream...

I listen to them on occasion. I did see see them last summer in PEI, I had tickets for the whole Canada Day festivities. They've written some great songs, but Raine annoys me sometimes. I think they're best stuff is probably behind them, but I'm always open to being proven wrong.

My wife and sister in law are huge fans though.

Yeah thats true, but at least they know they got mainstream, and they hated it too. They're at least TRYING to make redemption haha

They're going back to their Naveed days (their first album), and they decided to do this one without their stupid producers that chose all the mainstream songs. They're recording the album in Raine Maida's home studio.

I was reading how this album was produced by Raine Maida, the first one for OLP without an "outside" hand. I will be curious now to hear where this goes. I was a fan of their earliest stuff.

Really? Am I the only person that is not expecting much out of this?

I didn't say I was expecting much. In fact I'm guessing it'll have the soul of their later albums that were overproduced, and the garagey feel of their early stuff. Probably not a good combination. I've heard some of the stuff Raine's produced for Chantel and wasn't terribly impressed.

However I'm still curious to hear what it will sound like. It could be really awesome, and that's why I think it will be worth a listen. I'm not holding my breath though.

It's not AMAZING like Naveed and Happiness were, but it IS an improvement for sure. Not overly amazing, but it's still good

It has some awesome gems on it, like Paper Moon. Monkey Brains sounds like it should be off their first album, it's super heavy (for them), especially after the quite part. Those are the two best on the album by far.

They put a lot more in-your-face guitar in it, with longer solo's and such, which definetly make it better than their last album. There's also a lot of delay used on the album, which is something entirely new. He sounds like the Edge at some points.

I liked OLP a lot right up to and including Age of Spiritual Machines (my favourite album of theirs, despite the video for "Innocent" tainting things beyond toleration).

The stuff after that sounded way too much like Creed to me (wasn't it Bob Rock who worked on at least one of those later albums?); their drummer even stopped wearing his '7' jerseys, which was sort of a dead giveaway, I thought (at least in my mind).

Bob Rock did do their albums "Gravity" and "Healthy in Paranoid Times" and pretty much destroyed them, then they decided to get back to roots and record an album alone. I'm hoping the next one will be a bit more rock, like "Clumsy" or "Naveed".

P.S. I agree. Spiritual Machines is a great album!
