Well, this apparently was on mythbusters but I have no idea if they debunked it or not.

For whatever reason I came across it and thought I would share.

:)

Mythbusters totally busted that one... The guy that posted the "myth" was super pissed about having it busted, saying how the Mythbusters screwed it up. It's just rediculous.

Haha, yeah. But sure would have been pretty fun if it did work!

They could have at least tried to make connecting the wire look interesting.

Was that all three wires twisted together, and then taped to the penny?

I think it was...
I don't suppose there is a way to make a really cheap good sounding speaker? Not that I have any ambition to make one, but the concept has
to be simple enough.

I think that's the beauty of the "loudspeaker" is it's simplicity. We still really haven't come up with a better way to do it after all these years.

Wrap of wire, in a magnetic field, attached to a diaphragm.

I'm fairly certain that making one from scratch VS purchasing one would be a losing battle cost wise. You'd have better luck pulling one out of some old equipment and having it sound better.

I just think of substantial enclosure producers that use off the shelf drivers from the big third party manufacturers. Even with their budgets, they don't go there.

I think someone forgot to explain this part to the guy in the video.

If Faraday were still alive he could tell this guy that he's an idiot himself. But since he isn't I'd be happy to do the honors.
