People whos ancestry come from Scotland usually prefer to be referred to as "Scots". The word "Scottish" is defamatory and means the equivalent to "cheapskate", or "tightwad". I know this only because I have done extensive research into my own heritage, all the way back to the original McLean (Duart) Castle on Isle of Mull in Scotland. Funny thing though... I don't care for scotch whisky.
