If I ever get a Gold Record though, I'll get a bottle of Balblair 1965 to celebrate.

The 12 is very near the top end of good. The 21 is stunning, I'd love to try the 30.

True that! In my pay grade, it's pretty effective. I've never tried the 21... I'm gonna have to go try to find that now.

I've only had it once. If I'm having Balvenie it's usually their 15 which I would classify as solidly great. I would say it's number 4 or 5 on my goto scotch list behind Bowmore 18, Dalwhinnie 15, Old Pulteney 17 and Lagavulin 16.

So, you're drinking like a grown up now? I am feeling practically human again, so we'll get together sooner than later...

Aw, sweet! Another spot for me to claim hobbyist status and ask advice from you pros ;)
(I'm a 'whiskey enthusiast,' but haven't graduated to any true Scotch yet)

I might even be recording like a grown up too. Either way, I'd love to have you by soon (maybe this weekend...wink wink.)

People whos ancestry come from Scotland usually prefer to be referred to as "Scots". The word "Scottish" is defamatory and means the equivalent to "cheapskate", or "tightwad". I know this only because I have done extensive research into my own heritage, all the way back to the original McLean (Duart) Castle on Isle of Mull in Scotland. Funny thing though... I don't care for scotch whisky. :-|

Haha... That is kind of funny. Some people consider being called French as defamatory too. Good to know though.

I didn't know that you were of Scottish descent though. I keep thinking "Mac" vs "Mc"... and I don't know why.

Yeah I'm not really scotch enough to care. I was going to write "scotch blood" before but I thought that might get a bit confusing.

Funny thing this thread... everyone who has posted here so far has a last name that is decended from either France or Scotland. Macrae, MacFarlane, Boyce, McLean...all Scots. Benoit, LeBlanc.. French.
...I find that stuff interesting.

Good eye. I find the history of the languages to be very fascinating. Did you know that other than the obvious Latin, the development of the French language was also influence by Gaelic? The region now known as France was once part of the area know as Gaul. Around the 2nd century BC, the romans invaded the area, and well... There you have it, the Scots and the French have a linguistic bond.

Just bought a battle of 12 year old Glenmorangie at duty free. I was considering an 18 year old Ardbeg, but I ended up getting the GM instead and a pair of sunglasses. Ardbeg is actually owned by GM, although I don't know if they're closely related at all. Haven't tried GM since I first started drinking scotch so we'll see how it goes.

I'm coming up this weekend on Sunday. Are you going to Paul's thing? I tried just one shot of it when I got home, just to test it out, and it was very different from what I remember. It starts out very smooth, sweet and fruity, even a little thin, and then has a comparatively strong, complex finish. It's their nectar d'or as they call it which means it spends the last two years of it's aging in french wine casks, which I'm sure affects things quite a bit.

I got a huge session this week/weekend with a tight deadline, but I'm hoping to wrap things up in time to meet up with you guys. Maybe we could meet up at Liquid Audio?
