Looks can be deceiving

Postby Malcolm Boyce » Mon Jan 15, 2007 7:35 pm

This is kind of an open letter to the Mods of this board to let you all know what's going on with traffic on these pages.

With the relative small amount of posting going on, one could be left wondering about the success of this site, or whether it is worth spending the kind of time mods like oddioguy spend posting things for all to take in. But let's look under the hood and see what's really going on:

Since Jan1st 2007, there have been 85 different visitors to the forums, who have visited 232 times, and loaded 1299 pages. That's an average of almost 87 pages read daily since the beginning of the month! No, this doesn't compare with huge commercial boards, or "chat rooms" like "g-bike", but for a little local site like this, with very little promotion, and little active posters, this is very respectable. The folks that are visiting the board, are reading it.

Just want to say thanks to folks like Al, Thom, and Marc for participating and helping to turn this into something cool for our locale. Hopefully with a little knowledge of what's going on traffic wise, some of you lurkers will dig in and accept the challenge of helping our little geek forum grow.

Thanks,
Malcolm

Thanx for the update, Malcolm.
I can't say that I've been discouraged at all, as I post what I post because I like doing it. I've been happy with the page hits in my little section, and I've had some very cool people drop by to post "Hi" from time to time...some local, some from as far away as California, and all points in between.

...and it has not gone unnoticed that we can now edit our posts. Again....thanx!
Spelling mistakes and other typos suck. I like to be able to fix 'em when I notice 'em.

I am a lurker, one of the midnight readers, I check anything and everything that comes through. I love this site, and I think it's an excellent idea. I don't have much to contribute, but I learn mostly by listening at this point. I make some posts here and there. Well done Malcolm.

Thanks for the words but...please please please ask questions. Me, Malcolm and Thom love sharing knowledge, and as an instructor I am aware that teaching keeps your own knowledge sharpened.
This goes for you as well Josh Porter.

I too am a newby to this site. I resent the fact that Oddioguy hadn't turned me on to it sooner  (kidding)
A little about me.... I do 'live' sound (a lot), dabble into recording (a little), and play a plethora of instruments.
I am here to learn ...and, to a certain degree, to teach. But mainly I like to share Engineering experiences and ideas.
Great forum you have here!

I am seriously delinquent in passing this sort of stuff around. In my defence, I am trying to re-connect with society at large...

Middle Audio is Malcolm Boyce's recording studio.

He has taught at the Imperial Theatre and elsewhere I am sure.

I have taught Audio Systems and Maintenance course in a school in Fredericton, privately and for various organizations.

I have a studio in uptown Saint John where I often instruct students one on one on basic electronics, wiring and maintenance.

I am slated to instruct simillar material at the School of Rock and Film on Sydney street but that remains to be seen.

Does this clarify anything for you?
