So I bought a bike in March with the intention of riding to work. It's been pretty cool in the mornings, so I've been waiting for nice weather.
This morning was perfect, so I decided I'd better time the trip to see how long it's going to take me come Monday morning.
25 minutes each way....and that is including the fact that I haven't gotten off my lazy ass to do anything similar for 20 years.
The same trip is almost 15 minutes by car.
So weather permitting I'm pedalling from here on in until fall.

yeah... desk jobs are evil and seem to slow the metabalism down.
I would think that this is probably the most effective way to stay in shape, and without that feeling that you've wasted time out of the day.

Your back road to work is not a bad one... University Avenue, Sandy Point Road, through rockwood park area, Haymarket overpass and voila !

Although, after a long days work, the pedal upwards to the Haymarket overpass... might be cursin' that one for the first week ?

City Road to the footbridge over the Throughway can be a way to avoid that killer hill heading north. You still have Somerset, or Rockland, but they somehow seem easier than starting out with that Crown Street O-Pass...

In all honesty, the overpass wasn't that bad. I was rather glad I hit a red light at the top though. :-)
The route WSA mentioned is the one I travelled, although I will be trying a couple of alternates.

I really wish something like that was an option for me. Seeing how this is my first almost completely behind a desk job, i often feel the need to get out and exercise, but don't always make the time.

Unfortunately I have a 20 min drive to work that's almost all highway. It would be about 2 hrs each way on my bike.

Well Monday Tuesday and Wednesday were washouts, due to required dealings with the civil service (Yay! It's property tax payin' season!...and look at ALL that I get in return! Image)
Anywhoooo....
Today was the first real-time run. Went well. Let's see what happens after 2 days in a row though....

Are you having pains in parts of the body you didn't know you had, yet?
The road goes on forever and the party never ends.

That is the odd part...I though I'd be stiff and sore, my legs would be begging me to take te car this morning.
But no.
Absolutely fine.

Just a little update.....

My bike has paid for itself several times over now.
I used to fill the car every ten days on average. My last tank of gas lasted a month.

Fight the Power!!!
