Flood?

Was anybody affected by the flooding? It looked pretty crappy on the news.

I've had some drainage problems at my place here, so I wasn't surprised to get a little water around my basement windows. Not enough to be a real problem.

It was pretty wild rain for this time of year.

It rained like crazy here. My sump pump worked hard all night.

I had to fill in for Peter Doyle Wednesday night at O'Leary's. His place got flooded pretty bad. I hope the damage was minimal. Such a shame when that stuff happens, it can be so costly. My thoughts go out to anyone who was affected by any flooding.

On that note, this is an email I sent to Malcolm earlier today about my parents inlaw.........

They live on the West side in Milford, where 2 big hills border the side and back of their house, sort of in a miniature valley. I guess the city pipes backed up and their drain tile over flowed. We took out a layer of carpet, a layer of cushioning (which acted as a huge sponge), an inch layer of soggy plasterboard (which weighed a ton), the styrofoam insulation and 1 x 4 floor frame. Then we had to get rid of the water, mops, wet vacs, buckets, etc. We took off about 6 inches of drywall at the base of the walls aound the floors so we could get at the plasterboard easier. We finished 2 rooms downstairs, living and TV room. So far we've gutted about 650 sq feet, with about 500 more sq feet to go. 12 hours of demolition and cleanup.

There's still a bathroom, hallway, landry room and utility room to clean up. The bathroom, hallway and laundry have a floor (4 layers) with a new floor built and glued directly on top of it (2 more layers). The utility floor is the concrete, so that's not too bad, but the walls will need some new sheet rock and insulation. For the remainder of the house we need to take out 2 feet of sheetrock from the base of the walls, and replace them, with any insulation as well.

A bloody freakin mess I tell ya!!

Flood Update

Postby Burnsy » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:09 pm

So Thursday I took a day off work to help gut the house. Friday I went to work(can't miss too much time), and yesterday I got up nice and early to help my inlaws again. About an hour into hauling debris from the basement, my frikkin back gives out, spasms and pain. So I go to the hospital and they give me a note,"No work for 5 days," and they don't give me any meds.... jerks. I sure could use something potent right about now...... although my honey gets to wait on me hand and foot!

I don't know if you'll be able to see my pics without registering (it's worth it. Costs a few keystrokes only)

Man I can't believe we're still getting more rain today. They are expecting another 50mm! At this rate I'll be drinking bottled water for another few weeks.

I'm really worried about the high-risk flood spots though... Is everyone here holding up alrgight?
