Are You Serious?

Postby josh porter » Fri Mar 06, 2009 9:25 am

So I figured its about time to post this true story.

This past Feb 13, 09, a guy comes into my store with his hands in his pockets and a goofy green hat on and some white "Elton John" sunglasses. He approaches the counter and as I ask if I can help him with anything, he says to me "This is a hold up."

Now mind you it's 10:30 in the morning and we open at 9:30, so its not like we have cash bursting out of our registers.

I looked at him and said those famous words, "Are you serious sir?"

He looks at me and says "Ya man, open your register"

I say "Ok, but I wouln't want to go to jail over 150 bucks."

To which he replies "Oh" and leaves the store.

So after I inform my manager and we call security to warn them about this guy, 10 mins later, a guard comes down and says they need me to Id the guy. I say ok and we head down to the first level and there he is, standing outside Pizza Hut, Smoking with his buddies. So security calls the Police and about 3 Mins later, I see 3 officers running up King St and they slam him into the Pizza Hut door and throw him onto the ground and frisk him.

Just another wonderful day in the Electronic Retail World.

*shakes head*

This story is everything a great story should be. Well done good sir! Excellent way to start my morning! Your responses to him are perfect...

Ya I mean if he had properly read the "robber's handbook" he would have clearly seen that Step 4: stand around and smoke, should not come before Step 3: make a clean get away.

I would recommend this to him as a primer.

I will risk sounding paranoid and snippy. Why not?
Josh, are you serious? Think about what you are doing. In a forum that is viewable to the public,
using your first and last name, you are giving very specific details of you identifying a "criminal".
You have described him and given sufficient details regarding the incident to reveal who you are,
where you work and your involvement in the incident. Think about it.

Maybe.... But he doesn't seem to be a very good criminal. Josh didn't seem to afraid of him in the story, so we'll assume he's of little threat. I'd personally give him my home address to make sure that if we wanted to "discuss" it further he would have a way of reaching me, but I'm an instigating prick like that like that...

I do see your point Scott, and it's valid, but I'm willing to pressume for now that Josh has weighed the danger (or lack thereof).

Scott,
thanks for the concern but I am pretty sure this guy just wanted to go back to the big house for a while. The whole incident was on the news and they announced who it was and where it was and what happened. after talking to the police, I found out that the guy just got out of a three year sentence and he had no weapon on him. The fact that he gave up as easily as he did and that he went just outside and waited around smoking, leads us to believe that all he wanted to do was go back "home".

Hahaha... Some people's children, eh?

I gave you the benefit of the doubt Josh, but Scott wasn't likely trying to be snarky, he was just generally concerned I think. All in all, I appreciated the hilarious story, and I'm glad you weren't hurt in the process.

I know he wasn't trying to be snarky. I wouldnt have posted the story if I thought the guy was a threat or anything like that.

You are both correct sirs, my questioning came not from a place of snark, but rather a place of concern (and paranoia).
As you were, move along folks, nothing to see here.

The details of this incident are far from secret, including before the existence of this thread.

This fellow would have no problem finding our pal Josh again if he wanted to say hi... Or in his case... "Put 'em up".

Well, colour me ignorant. I have been thinking about subscribing to the newspaper. Or maybe I should spend more time on the internet.

Your concern was sincere, albeit unnecessary in this case.
