Another dilema has been what to do for a panel indicator. Fender has their classic Dialight faceted lens, Marshall has illuminated rockers (among others), Mesa ushered in the era of "blue", but I wanted something different.
So I got to playing around with Plexiglass and blue LEDS and realized that the Plexiglass doesn't pick up much of the light, but if you engrave something into the Plexiglass, it glows quite nicely. So I have decided to try a "Plexi" panel with logo, labeling etc engraved from the rear. We'll see....
Here are 3 shots from the experimental stage...

I engraved the "T" free hand with a Dremel and round ball mill bit. I think a conical bit will have even better results. I'll have to do more testing.

^ Sorry for the crappy focus. Camera keep auto-focusing on the wallpaper in the background except for the 3rd shot, and I didn't take the time to correct it.
Yes...the pics are fuzzy....you're not hung-over.

Well okay, some of you are...

Thom, if you want, I could do the engraving for you on the CNC machine.
Just do your design up in AutoCad (or any other program that produces a .dxf file) and I can load it into my machine and ...voila!

You were going to be the 1st person I hit up for the intial panel.

And FYI...I just ordered 2 sheets of Plexiglas...
I'll do up a .dxf drawing over the next couple of weeks, and put some Duff on ice. ;-)

So what's best....2D or 3D drawing?

If it's just going to be engraving text on a flat piece of plexi-glass, then 2-D is all we need.

I think I'm finished with the dxf drawing. E-mailing a question, though....

Thanx to Jef, I now have 2 prototype Plexiglas panels for this project. I'll post pics when I get the LED's wired up. I think this is going to work...

I didn't post pics of the panels, as it turned out that the engraving was not deep enough to show up very well when lit by the LEDs.
The engraving itself looks great, and a fix is being devised...

Hey man, how is the amp coming? Are you still working at it? What stage of development is it at?

I haven't really had time to develop this any further. By the time I get home most nights, I'm completely shagged and don't want to look at electronics at all.

I hear ya buddy, I'm just really excited about it. It'll be awesome! Let us know when anything new comes of it!
