Takamine setup revisit

This fine instrument is fretting out once again. It is buzzing (mostly on strings 5 and 6) in the open position and gets worst as you move up the neck.

The owner asked if a simple truss rod adjustment would be the cure.

I thought I would would put the question to oddioguy since you have had an intimate relationship with ol'Red. (ol' Red being the guitar and not the owner.)

The owner keeps this axe hug on the wall in her music room several feet from an exterior door. I have suggested that she may want to keep it in the case to prevent exposure to drastic temperature changes. Any comments?

Are you implying that there's a real significant change in temperature going on in that room? If so then I'd suggest in the case, and then in another room. How bad of a temperature change are we taking about?

The door is direct access to the great outdoors. Blustery gusts of cold air cause what I would say are significant temperature fluxes.

Ah...I getcha. Then I'd recommend moving the guitar to another room for sure. But it would still need some TLC from what you're saying...

I find that I have to tweak the truss rods twice a year, generally spring and fall as temp and humidity changes. The fact that it starts around the 5th or 6th fret confirms that a tweak is what is required.
Loosening the truss rod slightly (1/4 turn?) should help.

Thanks Thom. I will give her a quarter turn.

Well don't take that too literally. It may require far LESS.
See my "Guitars Are Gear Too" thread for proper procedure.
