Impedance, speaker(s) replacement

Postby Scott DeVarenne » Mon Jul 07, 2008 2:15 am

So, I have this keyboard amplifier, a Yorkville 50K (mid 1990s).
I want to replace the 10" crap speaker with a guitar speaker, and disable the tweeter (leaving it in place).
What load/impedance would the amplifier be most happy with?
and (looking now at the third image)
Can I leave the wire going to the tweeter disconnected at point A,
or must I disconnect prior to the R52/5W/22R thingy, point B?
Disconnecting at point B is less desirable because the thingy is located in with the electronics.

By the looks of things, replace the speaker with one that is 4 ohms.
You can disconnect the tweeter at any point. Before the resistor or after
doesn't really matter because you will be creating an open circuit. The
resistor will have no effect if the circuit is not completed. Just don't leave
bare (uninsulated) wire ends dangling around that they may short out.

That tweeter should have no appreciable effect on the impedance of your total load.
