so a gentleman came into the store and bought a pair of active nosie cancelling earbuds from us and he came back with his ipod and there is what looks to be a burn mark when its off in the screen. when the screen is on, it looks like lcd fluid is leaking and running. any thoughts from anyone??? can active nosie cancelling earbuds transfer power and burn a screen?

Maybe you should contact apple.com about the ipod, and whoever the manufacture of the earbuds are, and see if there are any compatibility issues between the two components. The tech support dept. of both companies would be a good place to start.

Someone with more technical knowledge than me might chime in, but I would think it would be highly unlikely.

The video display and the AD converter/headphone amp are about as far apart both physically and electronically as you can be in an iPod. I can't imagine a set of headphones would have enough juice to do damage like that. Stranger things have happened though. What do the earbuds take for batteries?

UN-likely.
