This way you eliminate any variables from microphone placement. Also you could use the 4051, which is a bit quicker than the 4050s and would (hopefully) show off the improvement in transient response of the modified preamp.
I never thought of that... I wanted to use the 4051 initially but I wanted to record the same performance at the same time. I never considered splitting the signal. This is a much better idea.

Hideous is the right word though. The stock preamp was absolutely unusable by most standards. I can't say that the mod is a "great" sounding preamp, haven't really tried it out yet. I can say though that it's pretty clean now. Like Alain said... "Is it on?" kind of clean.
