I heard on CBC2 yesterday that there is a group in Sweden that takes part in piracy and they attempted to become recognized as a religion so they can avoid getting into trouble for piracy. The first and second attempts they weren't recognized but the third time they really got there stuff together and were recognized as a religion. I can't remember what the religion is called but if they would of spent half of the time they put into to this they could of got a job and bought a movie........ popcorn

Yeah I heard about those morons before. Didn't know they had succeeded. Guess I'll have to start a religion that's primary tenet is beating the crap out of anybody that I think smells funny. ie Isak Gerson.

We had a friend over not long ago who made fun of us "having" to watch commercials. He said he just downloads everything he watches stating "It's much cheaper that way" I looked at him and said "You're right, stealing is cheaper than paying for things". He stopped talking for a little while.

(lap

This is what needs to happen. DRM and legislation is not going to solve this problem, although it might make it more palatable for content producers. It needs to be education and peer pressure to change the way people think.

This... It can become "not cool" to steal.

But... is it really "theft" though?

Unless it has been freely shared by the artist, it is stealing. I have no problem streaming things to preview them and see if it's something I'm interested in before buying. I have no problem copying something I own to my computer to transfer it to my own ipod. I don't feel right about downloading entire albums, movies, tv series with no intention of supporting the creators of the media.

That's possibly the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Semantically yes it might be "copyright infringement" but it adds up to the same thing for the creators. If you need to reach so low into the stupid pool to justify your crimes and pretending that "sharing" has only upside and no downside, then I really have no use for you*.

I assumed that, hence my disclaimer. Just trying to save the world from one more unnecessary Internet pissing match. Oh, and smileys can be helpful in clarifying text which could be interpreted several ways.

Yeah.. perhaps I shouldn't assume that the readers in this forum are intelligent enough to make that distinction. From now on if I post something I think is funny (or stupid) It will be accompanied by the appropriate smiley. Myself, I like to laugh at some of the ubsurdity you see in the whole copyright debate thing. ;-)

Here is what an MTV network head has to say on the topic.
