One more faderpack is coming in the next week or so for a total of 32 channels of control. Now I just have to build some furniture to put it in.

Worked flawlessly. We ran a test with an existing session and it works as expected. We'll install it permanently before the end of the summer. I'll start build the desk for it when I get back from vacation in a couple weeks.

Work has finally started on building a console to put the ProControl in. Still plenty of work ahead of my but I'm well into it now. If ever I leave the studio business I may get into the furniture making business.

Are those the rack wings, or are they the actual bays for the PC to sit in?

Rack wings. The PC will rest between them. The overall length of this thing is borderline silly. It can be handle by a single operator, but is also a good size for a co-pilot to get involved too. Plenty of legroom though, even for you Andrew.

I forget, were they going to be swept wings, or straight?

Straight... Unless you want to make an argument for swept? I'm still open to that... But the design gets even more complicated and it makes the footprint wider too which given the size of the room and the 88" length of the PC could be problematic in and of itself.

Yeah that's what I figured. Swept just makes meters more visible from farther away is all, but I know what you're saying about the complication and the width.

Apparently one can kerf a piece of MDF. Racks are almost ready to be primed.

In 2+ weeks this should all be installed. So much work...

Me neither. Then you can come over and mix! Because I'll be napping for the remainder of the winter.

It is already assembled and in place. My goal is to start testing it Thursday. So... yeah.

It was a late one last night (with a handful of head scratching moments) but the monitoring is all wired and tested. I'm taking the night off tonight, because I forget what the kids look like and we are ahead of schedule. I'll be in Thursday night to finish tidying up, then Andrew if you want we can do the setup for the session on Friday night.

Speaking of "sound"... it does sound different in there and I'm inclined to say that it's not a bad thing.

That's a pretty substantial structure and setup change. I would be surprised if it didn't change the acoustic nature of that listening position in a pretty noticeable way.

You guys are likely both right. I anticipated this and I was curious as to whether the affects were going to be positive or negative. So far it seems very positive. I will be using the nearfields more than before for starters. But the difference is more tham "pretty noticeable", it's more in the realm of "night and day".

Next thing I'm going to do over the holidays is build a stand for the outboard racks, dropping them down a few inches.

PS - We should take a picture for Mixerman's facebook page this weekend!

Well, the console and desk have been sold.

I'll let the new owner make the official announcement themselves in their time, but I'm happy that it went to a good home. It was fun desk to build and I can't wait to build another one!

Here is a picture of the control room as it was before the move:
