Guitar Solo Of The Day!

Postby Malcolm Boyce » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:33 pm

My nominee for today in the Rock Category is Brian MacLeod from this monster... Good god he was a tone meister! What else would he have given us if if not taken so early in life..? Listen closely to how it carries over into the chorus after the solo... Bet that was loud!

Today, something a little different stylistically. Boz Scaggs, actually playing on his first record in a while... 1994's "Some Change" We'll see if this one appeals to Dylan's sensibilities.

I had to wait until after midnight because there can be only one per day.
Marc Ribot. He's the man. If you totally hate the song just jump ahead to 1:20.

For my participation in this thread, please pretend I have posted a link to J. Mascis's entire back catalogue, one song at a time. Thank you.

One of my top five all time favourite solos.
As with Scotty's disclaimer, if you don't dig the tune, skip to 1:55.

That last one, BIG Sugar, was a good one. Yay, Mal. Almost redeemed, you are, for the Eric Johnson (blah). Oh well, nobody's perfect.
Speaking of not perfect-

A little something different today. Always one of my favourites from Classic Albums. You can skip ahead to about 4 mins if you want to get to the part about the solos, but it's all good. For a full version of the solo check here.

Old sneaky Rainey and his thumb of gold, building his own den of subterfuge. 3rd to last take @ 5:05 is really cool- "It speaks for itself, really". What does he mean? Does he not like it? I can't tell. 2nd to last @5:40, bleh. That envelope\auto-wah thing is gross.
Mike McDonald- oh man, that guy's voice- I don't like. Mixed in, BG- not so bad. Lead vocals- I can't stand it. It's the timbre. Timbre.

Not my favourite Kim, but he's stretching out pretty good here.
