Headphone wiring question

Postby Burnsy » Sat Dec 07, 2013 12:20 pm

These wires are from Bose Triport headphones I purchased in 2005. They still sound great, except while doing some maintenance, I cut one of the wires. While re-wiring back together, red to red, copper to copper, I can't get the right side of the cans to work. What you're looking at are the wires, and there are two them cut, leading only to the right side of the headphones. So there were two wires in one sheath. The copper was covered in a fabric, which I pulled back to expose. The red is where I'm not sure. It also has a fabric, but there is no copper, just the red which appears to be a wire as well. When I connected both, still no signal. Any advice is welcome. Thanks,

Tom

If it's what I think it is, I've seen stuff like that before and had very little luck working with it. I can't really tell much by the pic, but I've seen where the "copper" you speak of is the common, and the hot is the "red" or other colour which is a coated, very fine wire that is near impossible to work with. Hopefully Al or Scott will have some wisdom to add.

Thanks Malcolm. I've set it aside for the time being, other things I have to get into. I'll keep researching to see what I can find.

What Malcolm said. Alain has been successful with these types of repairs before, but they are a PITA to work with.

How did you try to 'attach' them?
